【ヴァイキング】

　ヴァイキングはおよそ300年にわたって、活動をしてきました。ヴァイキングが歴史上に現れたのは793年、イギリスのリンディファーン島の修道院をを襲撃した出来事の記述が残っている中で最も古く、ここからがヴァイキング時代の始まりとされています。その後の300年間、ヴァイキングたちは、巧みな航海術で、海賊や商人、開拓者として各地に上陸しました。
　ヴァイキングたちはスウェーデン、ノルウェイ、デンマークと、それぞれの拠点にあった活動を展開してきました。スウェーデンヴァイキングは、バルト海を渡り、黒海やカスピ海に至るバルト地域に進出、ロシア中心の商業ルートを確立し、居住しました。また彼らはその地でスラブ人の内乱を統治したと言われています。

　ノルウェイヴァイキングは大西洋諸島、スコットランドやアイルランドへ進出し、さらにはアイスランドやグリーンランド、また、彼らがヴィンランド(Vinland)と名付けた北アメリカのニューファンドランド島へも上陸を果たしました。これは、コロンブスよりも500年近く前の出来事で、コロンブスは彼らの地図を持っていたという説もあるのです。デンマークヴァイキングは西ヨーロッパ沿岸に沿って地中海へ進路をとり、ギリシャまで遠征し、また、イングランド東部へも到達しました。彼らは、北欧、西ヨーロッパ間をつなぎ貿易を行っていたという面で重要な役割を果たしていました。デンマークはスウェーデンと併合して「北海帝国」をつくり上げ、イングランドを統治していましたが、1042年、デンマークの王ハルサクヌートが亡くなるとイングランド統治も終わり、ここで同時にヴァイキング時代も終わりを告げました。

Viking had activated for over approximately 300 years. It was in 793 when Viking appeared on the history for the first time. The raid on monastery in England's Lindisfarne was the oldest historical description of Viking, and was said that the Viking age had begun from here. After that, for 300 years, Viking landed in each place as the corsair, the merchant and the pioneers with their skillful sailing art.
Viking developed the activity, which suited a base respectively in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.
Swedish Viking crossed the Baltic Sea, established the commercial route in the Russian center, advanced in the Baltic area to the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, and had their residence. Also, it is said that they governed the rebellion of the Slavic in the place.
Norwegian Viking achieved landing on Atlantic islands, on Scott Land, and also on New Fund Land Island in northern America, where they named the Vinland. There is an opinion that this achievement was made nearly 500 years before Columbus did, and Columbus had their map.
Danish Viking took a passage to Mediterranean Sea along the Western Europe coast, went to Greece and also reached to the eastern part of England. They also played an important role by the reason that they connected and were trading between North Europe and Western Europe.
Denmark merged with Sweden, and established "the northern Sea Empire". They also started governing England. However, when the King Harthacnud died in 1042, the government in England by Danish was over. At the same time, Viking Age came to an end here.
